Southwest Looks To Expand Dallas Training Facility

Files Development Plans For 14 Acre Tract Near Love Field

Southwest Airlines has filed a development plan for a 14-acre tract of land near Dallas' Love Field with the intention of expanding its training facility there.

The site is where the airline recently built an addition to its Dallas base of operations for an estimated $100 million.

According to a report from The Dallas Morning News, Southwest spokeswoman Lori Crabtree said in an email to the paper that the airline is "in the process of evaluating an opportunity for a new building on campus. If we move forward with the building, we estimate a move-in date no earlier than 2018.”

The current Southwest training center at Love Field opened in 1998. It was designed for the 2,600 pilots employed by the airline at the time. Today, there are about 8,000 pilots flying for Southwest.
