New Jersey Residents Report Seeing Large, Low-Flying Objects Overhead

Government officials are finally beginning to speak out on the hundreds of mysterious drone sightings from New Jersey residents. For the most part, what they’re saying is that they have no idea what the objects are.

For weeks, residents of New Jersey and other New England states have been submitting reports of six-foot-long, drone-like objects flying in clusters at low altitudes. The FBI has received upwards of 5,000 tips, though the agency says that less than 100 have been deemed worthy of further investigation. The rest have been chalked up to mistaking airliners for drones near commercial airports.

Actual information on these sightings is limited, which has sparked concern for local and state officials. Authorities are bringing in the big guns to try and gain some clarity. So far, all the outgoing Biden administration has done is downplay the issue and confirm that there is no national security threat.

“There’s no question that people are seeing drones,” stated Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas. He continued to assure that federal officials “are on it,” though it still seems that no one knows what the unidentified objects are.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul noted that her state was being sent a drone detection system, but what she really wants is “the power to deal directly with the drones”. New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy supports this plan.

President-elect Donald Trump’s pick to be the next National Security Adviser, Representative Mike Waltz, has related the issue to gaps in airspace security. He also mentioned the possibility of installing an Iron Dome, which is what Israel uses as a missile defense system.

“What the drone issue points out are kind of gaps in our agencies, gaps in our authorities between the Department of Homeland Security, local law enforcement, the Defense Department," Waltz commented.

In short, federal officials seem to know just about as much about the unidentified drones as we do. However, there is no current threat to New England residents.
