Piper Sport Down In Addison, TX

Instructor And Student Pilot Injured In Takeoff Accident

A Pipersport LSA went down Saturday on what is being reported as a student orientation flight at the Addison, TX airport just after takeoff, resulting in the injury of the flight instructor and student pilot on board.

The accident occurred at just before 1700 local time, according to authorities. A student pilot from another flight school at the airport said that the people involved were an instructor and pilot from a different school, but that has not been confirmed, according to a report from television station KDFW.

There are few details about the accident. The plane reportedly has just taken off from Addison Airport (KADS) when the pilot attempted to return to the airport for an unspecified reason. He was attempting to land in the opposite direction from the takeoff when the plane went down at a steep nose-down attitude.

One of the people on board was flown to a nearby hospital by helicopter. The other was transported in an ambulance.

Traffic inbound to KADS was diverted to other airports for several hours on Saturday, according to the report.
