Drunk Australian Threatens To Blow Up Russian Plane

Russians Not Amused

A 29 year-old Australian man has been arrested after trying to break into the cockpit of an Aeroflot-Russian Airlines flight. The man threatened to blow up the plane "if it did not fly to Chechnya," according to media reports.

The flight was enroute from Tokyo to Moscow when the disturbance occurred Thursday evening. The aircraft crew overpowered the man as he attempted to break in to the cockpit. The Interfax News agency reported Friday that the extremely drunk man was found to have no explosives.

Airport Police said the man had been charged with "making a false report about a terrorist attack," and if convicted could spend up to three years in prison. An Australian Embassy spokesman in Moskow said the embassy is providing "consular assistance: to the Sidney resident.
