AeroSports Update: Another Aviation First

It Seems Like We Are Setting New Records In Aviation Every Day, But This One Is Special

The headline from UPI.com read something like this, “More than 100 Australians participated in a series of tandem parachute jumps while dressed as Santa Claus.” While that alone sounds like it ought to be setting some sort of a record, there’s actually more to the story.

It’s not uncommon to look at the country of Australia as being spacious, full of strange animals, and full of people who seem to march to their own drumbeat. The record that was set included 150 Santa Claus-dressed volunteers who participated in tandem skydive jumps. In case you’re little out of gear about what that means, a tandem jump is where an instructor skydiver is strapped to the back of someone else who has no skydive experience at all. In other words, all the Santas were riding as passengers.

According to the report, they also set a Guinness World Book Record for the most tandem parachute jumps in eight hours.

The report says that the stunt was part of experience gift retailer RedBalloon Christmas marketing campaign to raise funds for children's cancer charity, ‘Camp Quality’. The cherry on top of the whip cream is that they not only set a record, the event raised a total of $5000 for the charity.

By the way, it’s also reported that RedBalloon charity gathered 320 Australians dressed as Santa Claus to break the record for the largest surfing lesson in 2015. Like we said, the drum beats differently in the Southern Hemisphere.
