Airborne 10.02.17: Boeing Sponsors GoFly, FAA Funding, Tilton Cleared

Also: Airliner v Glider, Glider Flyby, Jupiter Helo, Ryanair, Wright Trophy, Afghan AF, 737-700 Freighter

Boeing has undertaken the GoFly Challenge, which calls on all inventors and doers to make human flight a reality by building the world’s first personal flying device for anyone, anywhere.

Over the next two years, teams will compete to win $2,000,000 in prizes, creating revolutionary technology and accessing the top minds in aerospace. The device must be safe, useful, and thrilling, but the design and function of the device is up to teams, which will have access to the top names in aerospace and aviation, engineering, design, finance, and law. The battle over a short-term funding solution to keeping the FAA airborne was a last-ditch attempt to avoid a deadline that could have stripped the FAA of its ability to do much of its day to day responsibilities and created another political nightmare. Industry reaction has been extensive... The SEC has dropped its fraud case against Lynn Tilton, the CEO and sole principal of Patriarch Partners ... which owns MD Helicopters. The charges of fraud against Tilton were first brought two years ago. Tilton was accused of misleading investors about loan pool values, and collecting $200 million in extra management fees. The case focused on loan pools valued at $2.5 billion. An administrative law judge made the decision to dismiss the case, saying the alleged violations were "unproven" by the SEC. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
