Sushi Delivery By Drone Now Available In Iceland

Flytrex Teams Up With Online Store Aha

If you live in certain parts of Reykjavik, Iceland, you can have sushi delivered by drone within about 4 minutes of placing an order.

Drone delivery company Flytrex has teamed up with online retailer Aha for the service. The website neowin.com reports that while Aha offers a wide variety of products that can be ordered online, the current focus with Flytrex is on sushi.

According to the report, when a customer makes an order online, they can request drone delivery. They will be given an approximate time that their order will be ready, and notified via text message to their phone that the aircraft is en route.

Drone delivery is particularly attractive in Reykjavik because of the challenges presented by the rivers and bays for delivery drivers. What the drone can accomplish in four to five minutes could take a driver on the road up to 25 minutes, according to the report.

So far, the drone delivery is only in certain regions of the city, and the aircraft don't fly right up to your house. The customer still has to go to a landing site and collect their sushi. The drone that is being used is a modified DJI Matrice 600 which can carry up to six-and-a-half pounds and have about a two-mile range.

Aha says it will evaluate the service and determine if it warrants expansion into other products.
