Fall Program Kicks Off At Fort Sumner

NASA’s schedule of high-altitude balloon launches has commenced at Fort Sumner, New Mexico. For more than thirty years the NASA Balloon Program has provided high-altitude platforms for technological and scientific investigations that have yielded information fundamental to our understanding of Earth, the solar system, and the universe. The fall campaign will conduct launches from mid-August through mid-October. Eight balloon flights from NASA’s Fort Sumner balloon launch site in eastern New Mexico will transport 16 missions including experiments and technology demonstrations in heliophysics, astrophysics, and atmospheric research.

WINGS Awards 26 Colorado Students With Flight Training Scholarships

Recipients Given Up To $12,000 Each For Private Pilot Training

Wings Over The Rockies, also known as “WINGS”, recently distributed 26 scholarships to Colorado students aged 15-19. They will each receive up to $12,000, amount depending on their current flight experience, to be used for their private pilot certification. The funding for these scholarships comes from the Ray Foundation. Their contribution is distributed by WINGS, with 150 scholarships totaling over $1.3 million being awarded since 2019.

NTSB Prelim: Piper J3C-65

During His Attempt To Refuel He Discovered That The Fuel Pumps Were Out Of Order

On July 27, 2024, about 1358 eastern daylight time, a Piper J3C-65, N77522, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near Groveland, Florida. The pilot and passenger received minor injuries. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 91 personal flight. The pilot reported that the airplane departed with 17 gallons of fuel from Gore Airport (4FL9), Haines City, Florida, and flew about 1 hour and 30 minutes before landing at Williston Municipal Airport (X60), Williston, Florida. During his attempt to refuel he discovered that the fuel pumps were out of order. The pilot calculated the fuel remaining in the air

The glideslope/glidepath is based on the following: Electronic components emitting signals which provide vertical guidance by reference to airborne instruments during instrument approaches such as ILS; or, Visual ground aids, such as VASI, which provide vertical guidance for a VFR approach or for the visual portion of an instrument approach and landing.
