Amelia Earhart's namesake charity, the Atchison Amelia Earhart Foundation, marked the 88th anniversary of her flight with the announcement of a museum bearing her name. On November 14, 2022, about 1134 eastern standard time, a Piper PA-18-150, N9858P, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near St. Augustine, Florida. The pilot was not injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 aerial observation flight. The purpose of the flight was to map erosion from Hurricane Nicole. The flight departed Daytona Beach International Airport (DAB), Daytona Beach, Florida at 0910, destined for Northeast Florida Regional Airport (SGJ), St. Augustine, Florida.
