CAP Cadets Spend Week Learning At Business Academy

Focus Is On Careers And Business Activities

For a full week in August, twenty-four Civil Air Patrol (CAP) cadets attended the organization’s Aviation & Aeronautics Business Academy.

Cadets and staff came from all eight regions and 20 wings of CAP and there was even a squadron from Germany. The academy had been on hiatus since 2015, but this was the second straight year it was hosted at the Vaughn College of Aeronautics and Technology in Queens, New York.

The academy provides real-world practical experiences in various areas of aviation and aeronautics businesses and services. This is accomplished in an educational environment and in collaboration with businesses that give presentations on current research and scientific developments in engineering, aviation, aeronautics, and business segments. This year’s academy was the first time previous participants were invited to return and serve as cadet staff to assist and advise cadets as they made their way through the academy’s activities.

“Coming back as staff has given me the opportunity to not only raise the generation of aviation leaders, but has also allowed me to learn more about myself as a mentor and a leader,” said Cadet Lt. Col. Timothy Ku, a 2023 graduate who belongs to the 41st Iowa Composite Squadron.
