Strike Continues as Bombardier Workers Reject Proposal

Union and Company Fail to Reach Agreement

Workers at Bombardier, Inc.’s manufacturing facility in Toronto are continuing their strike after rejecting the company’s latest offer by the deadline way back on June 22.

Workers’ union Unifor said members of its units 112 and 673 considered the “final offer” insufficient and that “both parties remain apart on key union priorities.”

Unifor’s bargaining committee and Bombardier management continue working together as they negotiate and remain committed to the bargaining process. The 1,350 employees are on strike at Bombardier’s Pearson International Airport facility where they are building the company’s long-range Global line of business jets.

Unifor workers held a similar strike against Bombardier at the same business jet assembly plant in 2021.

In that action which lasted a week, the two parties reached a 3-year bargaining agreement that provided workers with both higher wages and increased monthly benefits.

Unifor is Canada’s largest private sector union with 315,000 members in 696 locals who are employed across 29 business sectors.

Bombardier spokesman Mark Masluch said in an e-mailed statement, “Bombardier is continuing to negotiate with all parties. The goal remains to swiftly reach a mutually beneficial agreement.”
