Airborne 02.05.20: B-21 Reveal!, Singapore Airshow, US House v Moon

Also: Falcon 9 Hard Ldg, Wings Over Dalton Cancelled, Airbus at Heli-Expo, Spitzer Space Telescope Finale

The veil of secrecy is lifting... at least a little bit, as the Air Force has authorized the release of artist renderings of a stealthy B-21 Raider concept in hangars at a number of Air Force bases.

The images picture the B-21 in hangars at Dyess, Whiteman and Ellsworth AFBs and show some of the differences that are already becoming evident between the previous B-2 flying wing concept and the Next-Generation B-21 Raider. Four years ago, the USAF designated the next-generation bomber as the Raider in honor of the legendary Doolittle Raiders. The late Richard E. Cole, the last surviving Doolittle Raider, made the announcement in 2016. Every two years, high-level government and military delegations, as well as senior corporate executives around the world attend the picturesque Singapore Airshow to do business in this popular region. It’s reportedly Asia’s largest Airshow, so it has become a pivotal place for leading aerospace companies and  growing operations to see and be seen. However; the specter of possible exposure to the Coronavirus is creating serious concerns and the threat of affiliated hazards is causing many to cancel their plans to attend. The House Science Committee recently released H.R. 5666, the NASA authorization bill. An authorization bill does not appropriate funds, but does give insight to other legislators and affected agencies as to what the committee is willing to fund in future budgets. Apparently; H.R. 5666 appears to essentially reject NASA's Artemis program, which is supported by the Trump administration, which would place a base on the moon as a test and training site for astronauts in anticipation of a Mars mission in the next 10 to 20 years. The strategy would have astronauts making short visits to the Moon starting in 2028, and launching a Mars orbit mission by 2033. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
