Safire Gets The Boot

Now Looking For Investors AND New Digs

' Cause no, no, nobody knows you
When you're down and out.
In your pocket, not one penny,
And as for friends, you don't have any.

--Jimmy Cox, "Nobody Knows You When You're Down And Out"

Down-and-out Safire Aircraft is not only looking for a new investor, but is now looking for a new home. Miami Today reports Miami Executive Aviation, and FBO at Opa-Locka Airport, locked Safire out September 9th for failure to pay the rent.

So much for the dreams of Miami-Dade (FL) Business Development Director Tom Monaghan. "We're sad to see this happen. It would have been a good thing for Opa-Locka to have this plant and the employment," he told the paper. "We believe they're still talking to several groups about investment, but we're basically to the point where we had to move on."

As ANN reported, Safire laid off most of its workers back in June. Safire President Camilo Salomon didn't have much to say about the situation, telling Miami Today the company was in a "sensitive moment," negotiating with a potential buyer for a bail-out. A couple of weeks ago, Salomon and his new "potential owner" met with Miami-Dade officials. Susan Warner Dooley, the county's assistant aviation director for development, wouldn't identify the potential owner to Miami Today, but said he was interested in "buying out" Salomon.

"I had assumed the closing had taken place at this point," Warner Dooley told the paper, after responding to inquiries about Safire's status.
