Nurse Falls From Helicopter During Rescue

Had Been Working To Retrieve A Woman Who Had Fallen While Hiking In Texas

A nurse working for STAR Flight in Texas has been fatally injured in a fall from a helicopter during a rescue operation.

In a news release, STAR Flight said that the accident occurred on April 27. According to the release, the crew was conducting a rescue of a woman who had fallen in
the Barton Creek Greenbelt near the 2600 block of Barton Hills Drive around 8:25
p.m.

At approximately 9:50 p.m., STAR Flight, flying in an EC-145 helicopter, located the woman and was hoisting her into the aircraft when STAR Flight Flight Nurse Kristin McLain, 46, fell from the helicopter’s hoist. Flight Nurse McLain died at the scene.

The rescued patient was transported to University Medical Center-Brackenridge with non-life threatening injuries.

STAR Flight is operated by the Travis County, TX department of emergency services.
