Famed Aerobatic Pilot Bob Davis Passes Away

A Life Well-Lived

Bob Davis, EAA 33006 and IAC 103, died peacefully on Sunday, October 8, 2023. In addition to his decades of dedication to EAA, he was also a 2002 inductee into the International Aerobatic Club Hall of Fame and an air show performer at Oshkosh for many years. Bob had been a strong supporter of EAA and EAA’s flight operations for the past several decades. EAA Vice President of Advocacy and Safety Sean Elliott shared these memories of working side by side with Bob:

“I first met Bob at EAA’s DC-3 ground school in the mid ‘90s. Bob was the consummate professional and an outstanding instructor and mentor. He wound up conducting my type rating in the DC-3 just a few years later. We continued to work side by side as the two examiners supporting EAA’s B-17 Aluminum Overcast. His knowledge and abilities in large radial-powered, multi-engine aircraft were unsurpassed and I learned so very much from him throughout the times that we flew together. A true gentleman, Bob was a true EAA ambassador as well as caretaker for all the rare vintage aircraft that he held in such high regard with his expertise. Bob will be missed by not just EAA, but all in the warbird and vintage aircraft communities that had the privilege to work with him.”

Founded in 1953 by a group of aviation enthusiasts headed by veteran aviator Paul Poberezny, the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) is an Oshkosh, Wisconsin-based non-profit aviation and aerospace organization dedicated to growing participation in flight, aircraft construction, and other aeronautical endeavors via the sharing of the spirit of aviation. Globally, the EAA’s two-hundred-thousand-strong member base is organized into nearly one-thousand chapters.
