It's Never Too Early To Plan For Oshkosh...

The most pleasant aspect of having celebrated my 50th Oshkosh attendance is the knowledge that I can look forward to many more (God willing...). The event continues to evolve and grow and while not all the changes are always met with complete agreement, the massive gathering that is Oshkosh does show that the aviation world is capable of coming together at least one week per year in order to celebrate all things aeronautical. And... that gives me hope.

Airborne 11.17.23: Hydrogen Deltahawk, Hybrid Cropduster, Blue Condor

Also: ATI Cargo Pilots, AeroGuard, True Blue Power Takes On Piaggio, Remote Pilot Ground School

DeltaHawk Engines dropped a surprise on us this week by disclosing their simulation analysis of a new,  hydrogen-fueled variant of its engine family for multiple markets. These tests apparently demonstrate  DeltaHawk’s engine architecture will adapt to hydrogen fuel, and allow for the development for a variety of  markets in addition to aviation. Wright Electric and Axter Aerospace capped off a successful flight test using their prototype hybrid-electric agricultural aircraft, proving the viability of a 1.2-Megawat

AD: Austro Engine GmbH Engines

AD 2023-20-03 Prompted By Reports Of Piston Failures

The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for certain Austro Engine GmbH Model E4 and E4P engines. This AD is prompted by reports of piston failures and the determination that certain batches of pistons were manufactured with a dimensional deviation in the piston pin bore and piston diameter. This AD requires repetitive engine oil analysis for aluminum content outside the acceptable limits and, if necessary, replacement of the pistons, piston rings, con-rods assembly, and crankcase or, as an alternative, replacement of the engine core. This AD is effective December 11, 2023.

AD 2023-20-07 Prompted By A Report That During A Production Ground Test, The Flap Position Switches Were Not Properly Rigged

The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for certain Epic Aircraft, LLC Model E1000 airplanes. This AD was prompted by improperly rigged flap position switches. This AD requires installing a secondary full position limit switch to the flap system, installing a switch ramp on the flap actuator, and modifying the take-off position switch rigging. The FAA is issuing this AD to address the unsafe condition on these products. This AD is effective November 22, 2023.

ANN's Daily Aero-Linx (11.25.23)

Aero Linx: Civil Aerospace Medical Institute (CAMI)

The FAA Civil Aerospace Medical Institute (CAMI) is the medical certification, research, education, and occupational health wing of the FAA's Office of Aerospace Medicine. The goal of our activities is to enhance aviation safety. Thus, our principal concern at CAMI is the human element in flight - pilots, flight attendants, passengers, air traffic controllers - and the entire human support system that embraces civil aviation. We study the factors that influence human performance in the aerospace environment, find ways to understand them, and communicate that understanding to the aviation community.
