Polish off those resumes! Delta is set to hire and train more than 1,300 pilots in the next year — the largest single-year hiring event in more than two decades. Pilots hired in the next year will fill positions across a broad range of mainline fleet types at Delta crew bases in New York, Atlanta, Minneapolis, Detroit, Seattle and others. The latest hiring plan is part of a broader effort to onboard more than 8,000 aviators in the next decade to backfill current pilots who are reaching the mandatory retirement age. NTSB Releases Preliminary Report From Alaska Air Ambulance Accident

The NTSB has released a preliminary report from an accident which occurred November 29 about 15 miles west of Cooper Landing, Alaska. The aircraft, a Piper Navajo operating as an air ambulance, was destroyed by impact and postcrash fire when it collided with mountainous terrain. The three occupants; the airline transport pilot, a flight nurse, and the flight paramedic were fatally injured.

Human remains have been recovered from a Chilean Air Force C-130 which went down last week while enroute to Antarctica. Arturo Merino, head of Chile’s air force, said there were no survivors from the accident. The plane had departed Monday from the southern city of Punta Arenas in Chilean Patagonia. There were 12 passengers and 17 crew members on board the aircraft. “The condition of the remains we discovered make it practically impossible that anyone could have survived the airplane accident,”

An approach wherein an aircraft on an IFR flight plan, having an air traffic control authorization, operating clear of clouds with at least 1 mile flight visibility and a reasonable expectation of continuing to the destination airport in those conditions, may deviate from the instrument approach procedure and proceed to the destination airport by visual reference to the surface.
