Annie’s Airport Hair Salon Getting Pilots Runway Ready

New Business Makes Formal Debut at Midwest Aviation Expo

The Mount Vernon/Outland Airport has welcomed a unique addition to its FBO: Annie’s Hair Salon.

It made its official debut at the Midwest Aviation Expo, providing a convenient (and stylish) service for both visitors and staff.

Chris Collins, the airport manager at MVN, was instrumental in bringing the hair salon idea back to life. The airport’s previous salon, which was forced into closure during Covid, was initially replaced by a photography studio. After this shut down, Collins decided it was time to revisit their previous niche.

Enter Annie, a seasoned hairdresser with 22 years of experience under her belt and a long-term goal of owning her own salon. In a twist of fate, Annie’s husband, who works with SRT Aviation in Mount Vernon, was able to introduce her to Collins. Annie jumped after the airport location opportunity in a handshake deal and has since officially opened for business.

"It's been my goal since I was 16," Annie shared. "Being out here is a lot less stressful. It’s more family-oriented."

One of the salon’s features is a jet-style chair, which is geared toward younger crowds but is supposedly sturdy enough to accommodate us big kids up to 250 pounds.

The location is especially handy for pilots, firefighters, and Air Evac teams that can’t go too far from home base. This allows them to stay fresh without having to take up more of their personal time.

With its special blend of convenience and aviation charm, Annie’s Hair Salon is poised to become a go-to spot for locals and travelers alike.
