The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for certain The Boeing Company Model 737-8 and 737-9 airplanes. This AD was prompted by manufacturing design changes to certain metallic support panel assemblies installed in the flight deck, which resulted in insufficient electrical bonding of the panels and consequent insufficient electrical grounding of installed equipment. This AD requires modification of the electrical bonding of these assemblies to provide sufficient electrical grounding for equipment installed in the flight deck. An Air and Marine Operations (AMO) National Air Security Operations Center, P-3 Long Range Tracker crew partnered with federal authorities to disrupt a smuggling attempt in the Eastern Pacific Ocean and seized 1.2 tons of cocaine, denying narcotics traffickers almost $44 million USD in illicit proceeds. On April 4, a NASOC P-3, LRT crew, located a suspected smuggling vessel near South America while on patrol in the Eastern Pacific Ocean. The aircrew continued to monitor the vessel and vectored the Royal Canadian Navy’s HMCS Saskatoon small boat teams to intercept the suspect vessel.

The TSA is extending the face mask requirement for individuals across all transportation networks throughout the United States, including at airports, onboard commercial aircraft, on over-the-road buses, and on commuter bus and rail systems through September 13. TSA’s initial face mask requirement went into effect on February 1 with an expiration date of May 11.

The US Marine Corps received its 60th KC-130J aircraft in March; the aircraft includes improved navigational performance, a modernized cockpit, and other key upgrades. The Tactical Airlift Program Office (PMA-207) accepted delivery of the aircraft outfitted with the Block 8.1 updated cockpit and AN/AAQ-24 DoN Large Aircraft Infrared Countermeasure (DoN LAIRCM). These upgrades address obsolescence issues and improve survivability.

On April 7, 2021, about 1408 eastern daylight time, a Cessna 177B airplane, N24RG, was destroyed when it was involved in an accident near Great Valley, New York. The pilot was seriously injured, and the pilot-rated passenger was fatally injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight. The pilot, who owned the airplane, held a private pilot certificate with a rating for airplane single-engine land. Earlier that day, the pilot and his passenger had flown from the Ledgedale Airport (7G0), Brockport, New York, to Great Valley Airport (N56), Great Valley, New York, and met with another pilot for lunch.

Leonardo has opened their new Helicopter Training Academy, located on their existing campus in northeast Philadelphia that also includes production, support and administrative functions for the United States. The new Academy was first announced at the 2019 Heli-Expo in Atlanta and, despite the challenges of Covid-19, was able to open two years later, on schedule. The new Academy in Philadelphia is part of an $80 million investment in United States operations that will provide training services for a growing demand and need for pilots, cabin crews and maintenance technicians across North and South America.

FlightServ has announced the groundbreaking of its new corporate jet facility on Thursday, April 29. Set to open in summer 2022, the 110,000-square-foot complex situated on 22 acres will feature a modern FBO facility, build-to-suit office space and an 80,000-square-foot heated hangar to accommodate the FBO's growing operations.
