Search Continues For Three Men Missing After Accident

Plane's Last Reported Position Was Over Mississippi Sound Monday Night

Authorities are continuing their search for three men thought to be aboard a single-engine Cessna aircraft that went down Monday night in Jackson County, MS.

The website Gulflive.com reports that the search began Monday night about 2300 local time. The plane had last been in contact with air traffic controllers at about 1240 local time, at which time it was over the Mississippi Sound.

Tuesday, a local resident found airplane wreckage on Belle Fontaine Beach. It has not been confirmed if that wreckage is from the missing plane, but television station WLOX reported that the family members of those missing were called to the area where the debris was found.

Jackson County Sheriff Mike Ezell said that his office, as well as the U.S. Coast Guard, the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources, and a helicopter from the Chevron refinery in Pascagoula are also involved in the search.
