Airbus Helicopters To Increase Military Focus

Faury: 'We Will Become A Little More Military'

Airbus Helicopters will shift its focus a little more towards military aircraft, according to the division's CEO.

Speaking to reporters at the Berlin Air Show, Airbus Helicopters Chief Executive Guillaume Faury (pictured) said that the division "will become a little more military."

Airbus Helicopters $7.6 billion in revenue for 2015 was split about evenly between civil and military aircraft, Faury said. Reuters reports that he indicated that the shift was expected to take place over the next three to five years. The shift is something that has happened organically, and was not planned by the company, Faury said.

One reason for the shift is the recent decline in the oil and gas sector, Faury said. But interest in military helicopters is on the rise, given heightened global security concerns. Clients are looking for aircraft that can respond quickly to threats, Faury said, and helicopters are well suited for those missions.
