Russian Planes Get Cool Welcome From RAF

Two Aircraft Escorted Away After Approaching Scotland Wednesday

Two Russian Tupolev Tu-95 bombers were greeted by an RAF Typhoon fighter jet as they approached Scotland's northeast coast Wednesday, and were escorted away from U.K. airspace.

SkyNews HD reports that the Russian "Bear" bombers were turned back by an airplane scrambled from RAF Leuchars in Fife.

The incident in Scotland was not isolated. The news service reports that Dutch fighters were also dispatched to intercept two Russian Tu-95s that entered their airspace. Those aircraft has penetrated about a half-mile into Dutch airspace.

The moves come as a Russian warship, the Vice Admiral Kulakov, is patrolling in international waters of the British coast.

The Russian Ministry of Defense said that the airplanes "remained in international airspace at all times and they are perfectly entitled to do so."
