New U.K. Airshow Rules Force Cricket Club Event Cancellation

Event Planned In The Flying Display Area For The Cosford Air Show

Rules imposed by the U.K. CAA following the accident at the Shoreham Air Show last year are causing a problem for the Albrighton Cricket Club, which may have to cancel its biggest fundraising event of the year.

The U.K. newspaper The Express and Star reports that the Albrighton Cricket Club is directly below part of the main flying display area for the RAF Cosford Air Show planned for June 19. That is the same day on which the club was planning its biggest annual fundraiser which helps support the club throughout the year.

Darren Shimmons, chairman of the Albrighton Cricket Club, said that they have been advised to shut down the fundraiser on the day of the air show, and access to the club will be limited on the day of the show.

Still Shimmons said there are other opportunities to raise money, including a charity event in July.

RAF Cosford Air Show director Clive Elliott told the paper that the club is "directly under the main flying display area. Due to changes in flying display regulations made to ensure the safety of the public, the club has decided to remain closed.”
