Airborne 05.24.19: Amazon 2 Lakeland, New Boeing?, Apollo 12 LM Impact Site

The Lakeland, FL City Commission has given unanimous approval to a plan that will see an Amazon cargo facility built at Lakeland Linder International Airport (KLAL). The 20-year deal gives Amazon a 20-year lease on 47.2 acres at the airport. The company plans to build a seven-jet cargo hangar and bring between 800 to 1,000 jobs to the region. Airport director Gene Conrad called the deal "a home run for us." Amazon will pay some $80,000 per month in rent, and 85 cents per 1,000 pounds of cargo

EU Establishes Initial Firefighting Fleet For Next Forest Fire Season

rescEU Will Include Seven Airplanes And Six Helicopters

To prepare for the risk of forest fires during the upcoming summer, the Commission has launched the first fleet of firefighting aircraft under the new rescEU system to tackle natural disasters. So far seven firefighting airplanes and six helicopters will be part of the rescEU fleet during an initial transition period, and the Commission is working together with the participating countries to add extra assets in the coming weeks.

United Airlines has renewed its contract with Boston-based World Energy, agreeing to purchase up to 10 million gallons of cost-competitive, commercial-scale, sustainable aviation biofuel over the next two years.
