Carrier Seeks Government Interference to Prevent Shutdown

Air Canada officials have resorted to asking Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government for assistance as contract negotiations with its pilots fail. Without this edge, the airline could be forced to cease operations in mid-September. Negotiations between Air Canada and the Air Line Pilots Association, which represents over 5,000 of the carrier’s pilots, began in June 2023.

CAF Southern California Wing Hosting Historic World War II Superfortress Bomber

The B-29 “Doc” History Restored Tour will be landing at Camarillo Airport (CMA) in California October 3-6, 2024 for a weekend stop hosted by the Southern California Wing of the Commemorative Air Force (CAF SoCal). 1,644 B-29s like Doc were built in Wichita, Kansas, at the Boeing Company’s plant. Doc rolled off the assembly line 80 years ago in 1944. It is one of only two remaining B-29s along with Fifi that are airworthy and flying today.

NASA astronaut Don Pettit along with Roscosmos cosmonauts Alexey Ovchinin and Ivan Vagner arrived at the International Space Station (ISS) on September 11 at about 3:32 p.m. EDT. Their Roscosmos Soyuz MS-26 spacecraft completed an automatic docking at the Russian module Rassvet after launching from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.

Joby Aviation announced it has applied to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for certification to become its first electric air taxi operation. JoeBen Bevirt, Joby’s founder and CEO, met with His Excellency Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director General of the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) at the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) inaugural Advanced Air Mobility Summit in Montreal, Canada, and presented Joby’s Letter of Intent to begin the Air Operator Certificate application process.

NTSB Prelim: Grumman American Avn. Corp. AA-5

The Airplane Crashed In A Wooded Area Adjacent To A Two-Lane Road And There Were No Known Witnesses

On September 4, 2024, about 1121 eastern daylight time, a Grumman American Aviation Corporation AA-5 airplane, N9659L, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near Rockmart, Georgia. The flight instructor and a student pilot were fatally injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 instructional flight. Initial Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) track data revealed that the airplane departed runway 13 at Paulding Northwest Atlanta Airport (PUJ), Dallas, Georgia about 1033. The airplane proceeded to the west, and remained within 15 nm of PUJ.

Radar Contact Lost Used by ATC to inform a pilot that the surveillance data used to determine the aircraft's position is no longer being received, or is no longer reliable and radar service is no longer being provided. The loss may be attributed to several factors including the aircraft merging with weather or ground clutter, the aircraft operating below radar line of sight coverage, the aircraft entering an area of poor radar return, failure of the aircraft's equipment, or failure of the surveillance equipment.
