Amid Contract Dispute Over Next-Gen Helo, Manufacturer Tightens the Belt

Sikorsky has begun layoffs of non-union employees at its New Haven, Connecticut facility after apparently losing out on a major government contract to rival Textron subsidiary Bell Helicopter. The Future Long Range Assault Aircraft Program is currently on track to develop the Bell V-280 Valor, a tiltrotor aircraft chosen over Sikorsky's more traditional pusher prop/ dual rotor equipped Defiant X helicopter.

The United States Marine Corps is investigating the disappearance of an explosives-containing component used to power various aircraft ejection and safety systems. A 23 March 2023 post-flight inspection of an AH-1Z Viper helicopter operated by the 1st Marine Aircraft Wing (MAW) determined subject component had gone missing in the vicinity of Okinawa, Japan—so reported the Marine Corps Times.

NTSB Prelim: Beech B200

Just As The Airplane Went Out Of Sight, The Camera Recorded A Rising Plume Of Smoke About 1-Mile South

On February 22, 2023, about 1156 central standard time (CST), a Beech 200 airplane, N55PC, was destroyed when it was involved in an accident near the Bill and Hillary Clinton International Airport (LIT), Little Rock, Arkansas. The commercial pilot and 4 passengers sustained fatal injuries. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 business flight. The flight was intended to transport Consulting Toxicology and Environmental Health (CTEH) emergency workers from Little Rock, Arkansas, to Columbus, Ohio, in response to an alloy plant explosion in Bedford, Ohio.
