Air India to Acquire Up to 290 Boeing Jets

Landmark Deal Boeing’s Largest South Asian Order to Date

Air India announced on 14 February 2023 that a deal had been struck by which the New Delhi-based air-carrier will advance the revitalization of its fleet by dint of an initial purchase of two-hundred narrow and wide-body Boeing jets. The agreement comprises 190 737-MAX, twenty 787-Dreamliner, and ten 777X aircraft—and includes options for an additional fifty 737-MAX single-aisle, and twenty 787-9 long-range airliners.

To the subject of the advent of 5G connectivity services, US airlines are urging the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to extend its radar altimeter retrofit deadline to June 2024. Air-carriers contend their fleets cannot be made ready to operate safely in the presence of 5G C-band frequencies within the agency’s specified timeframe. Under the FAA's extant proposal, carriers would be required to retrofit their aircrafts’ radar altimeters by July 2023.

On 08 February 2023, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana Zachary A. Myers announced that Indy Jet Management, LLC and associated parties had agreed to resolve allegations that they conducted illegal charter flights. The settlement addresses allegations set forth by the FAA that Indy Jet Management, between March 2017 and February 2018, operated approximately 168 paid passenger-carrying flights in violation of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations.

On January 28, 2023, at 1902 central standard time (cst), a Cessna 172 airplane, N6482B, was destroyed when it was involved in an accident near Hooker, Oklahoma. The pilot was fatally injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 91 personal flight. A review of Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast data provided by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) showed that the airplane departed the Liberal Mid-America Regional Airport (LBL), Liberal, Kansas, at 0916 cst for a flight to the Meadow Lake Airport (FLY), near Colorado Springs, Colorado, landing at 1150 cst.

ICAO Three−Letter Designator (3LD) An ICAO 3LD is an exclusive designator that, when used together with a flight number, becomes the aircraft call sign and provides distinct aircraft identification to air traffic control (ATC). ICAO approves 3LDs to enhance the safety and security of the air traffic system. An ICAO 3LD may be assigned to a company, agency, or organization and is used instead of the aircraft registration number for ATC operational and security purposes. An ICAO 3LD is also used for aircraft identification in the flight plan and associated messages and can be used for domestic and international flights. A telephony associated with an ICAO 3LD is used for radio communication.
