First Flight: Yak-152 Trainer

New Russian Trainer For Civilian And Military Markets

The Yak-152 primary trainer has flew for the first time Thursday at the airfield of Irkutsk Aviation Plant.

The aircraft has been developed for ab-initio training of both military and civilian pilots by the Yakovlev Design Bureau, the affiliate of Irkut Corporation. It is designated for day and night training for pilots in flying techniques, basics of navigation, simple, complex, and aerobatic maneuvers, as well as formation flight.

It is also designed as an instrument trainer.

The first flight was conducted by test pilot Vasily Sevastyanov. "Flight mission is done completely. The aircraft performed well," he said following the flight.

Irkut Corporation said serial production of the Yak-152 is underway at its facility in Irkutsk.
