Best of OSH25: SiriusXM Expands its Avionics Accessibility

Satellite-Based Weather Service Brought to the AF-5000/6000 Displays

Satellite-based weather provider SiriusXM Aviation recently announced a partnership that brings its services to the AF-5000 and 6000 avionics, produced by Dynon’s Advanced Flight Systems. The integration, made possible by a new SiriusXM satellite receiver, is expected to launch in the coming months.

“This is an exciting opportunity for pilots who up to this point have not had the option to use SiriusXM Aviation directly on their avionics,” said Radhika Giri, SiriusXM SVP of Emerging Business.” They will now be able to fly confidently knowing SiriusXM Aviation delivers superior weather and related information, helping them to make the best decisions.”

The addition of SiriusXM Aviation offers an alternative to ADS-B weather, assisting in areas where ADS-B coverage may be limited or unreliable, such as on the ramp, in the mountains, or in parts of Canada. Pilots also get continuous updates from taxi to shutdown, meaning no airborne-only limitations here. The tradeoff, of course, is a subscription fee… but for many, reliability will be worth it.

A prototype of the AF-6600 EFIS equipped with the new SiriusXM receiver will be on display at EAA AirVenture 2025 at Wittman Regional Airport (OSH) in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Visitors can see it in person at Advanced Flight Systems Booth 4034 in Hangar D and at the SiriusXM Aviation Tent 318.

Additional integrations with other avionics platforms also seem to be in the works, hinting at a broader rollout for SiriusXM’s satellite weather capabilities. The current partnership is expected to take shape “in the coming months,” though no solid release date has been announced.
