Plane Bounces Off Runway During Landing Attempt In Austria

Strong Crosswinds Blamed For The Aborted Approach

An Enter Air Boeing 737 attempting to land at Salzburg, Austria was forced to return to its airport of origin in Germany after it bounced off the tarmac during the landing attempt.

The New York Post reports that the airplane was battling strong crosswinds created by Storm Herwart on October 29 on the approach. A video captured of the landing attempt and posted on YouTube shows the plane bounding hard off the pavement after the right wing dropped significantly during the approach. The plane executed a go-around, but was required to return to Frankfort, Germany where the flight originated.

A state of emergency was declared in several cities due to the severe weekend storm, which was responsible for the deaths of five people, according to the report.

Enter Air is a charter airline based in Poland, according to Fox News. The airline said in a statement that the aircraft encountered hurricane-force winds, but the pilots acted quickly "according to procedures and aborted the landing." The plane landed safely back in Frankfort.
