ASA Releases Seaplane Rating Field Guide

New Practical Handbook With Training Curriculum

Aviation Supplies & Academics, Inc. (ASA) announced the release of the brand new An Aviator’s Field Guide to the Seaplane Rating. It is Bill Young’s new practical blueprint for aspiring pilots that contains details students need to know to earn their Airplane Single-Engine Sea rating.

The Guide is designed to be used before and during training. It provides a curriculum of flight and ground lessons, oral exam prep questions and answers as well as a focus on safety through the use of scenario-based training and the use of checklists.

All the content in the Guide is fully aligned with the Airman Certification Standards, or ACS, to ensure all requirements are met. For convenience, references to specific ACS tasks are provided to navigate through further study.

Young uses an example seaplane to illustrate concepts and also provides space throughout the book so students can make notes regarding details of the specific aircraft they will be training in.

An Aviator’s Field Guide to the Seaplane Rating is a thorough study guide that covers seaplane basics, reading the water surface, assessing the landing area, preflight procedures, maneuvering on the water, takeoffs and landings, beaching, docking, and critical procedures and safety considerations specific to amphibious seaplanes.

The Guide will give students the knowledge and confidence to earn their ASES rating and to become competent seaplane pilots.

It is available in Softcover, 200 pages, and is available at your local FBO, online, or on the website below. Electronic versions are also available.
