Incident Occurred Aboard Aircraft Carrying Then-Senator Obama

The NTSB has determined that the incident last year involving an uncommanded pitch-up aboard an aircraft occurred as a result of the inadvertent partial inflation of the evacuation slide and subsequent binding of the elevator control cables.

At Least One Fatality Reported In Accident

A Piper PA-32 Saratoga enroute from Gainesville, Florida to Fort Laudedale has gone down near the Broward/Palm Beach county line. Four people were reportedly aboard the aircraft at the time of the accident.

Pilot Suffers Serious Injuries

Sixty-three year-old Philip de Ridder was seriously injured Saturday when the Seawind 3000 he was piloting reportedly experienced engine problems and went down near Mission Golf Course in Vancouver, British Columbia. No one on the ground was hurt.

"The approval of Honeywell's system marks the successful completion of a partnership between the FAA and Airservices Australia to build and certify a ground based augmentation system (GBAS). We expect GBAS to become an asset to airports around the world." Source: FAA Administrator Randy Babbitt.
