Airline Industry Losses Top $370 Billion

The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) said that as seating capacity fell by around 50 per cent last year, that left just 1.8 billion passengers taking flights through 2020, compared with around 4.5 billion in 2019. The AMFA National Executive Council (NEC) has announced that it is accepting applications until February 28, 2021, for two AMFA Scholarships for 2021. Scholarships will be $2500 and will be payable to each recipient’s institution of higher learning. Runway excursions are the most frequent type of accident in aviation and regularly are identified as one of the most serious risks for large and small aircraft. Because of the complexity of the risk factors, preventing runway excursions requires coordination and commitment among numerous stakeholders. The release of the Global Action Plan for the Prevention of Runway Excursions (GAPPRE) is the culmination of a two-year effort and demonstrates the industry’s commitment to preventing runway excursions.

Pilot Was Assigned To Spray A 380-Acre Cornfield

On August 8, 2020, about 1845 central daylight time, a Robinson R-44II helicopter, N89LA, sustained substantial damage when it was involved in an accident near Logan, Iowa. The commercial pilot sustained serious injuries. The helicopter was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 137 aerial application flight. The pilot was assigned to spray a 380-acre cornfield. The pilot had just completed several spray runs and was turning to line up for another run, when he heard the engine emit a "pop" noise and the engine then accelerated.
