New Mexico State University Tapped For New Program
U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood announced Thursday that
the FAA has selected New Mexico State University (NMSU), Las
Cruces, NM, to lead a new Air Transportation Center of Excellence
for Commercial Space Transportation.
"Preexisting Fatigue" Named As Probable Cause For A Hole
Opening In A Southwest Airlines 737
The NTSB says "fuselage skin failure due to preexisting fatigue
at a chemically milled step" is the probable cause for a 18x12 inch
hole opening up in the roof of a Southwest Airlines 737 last year,
causing the airplane to depressurize.
Jeffrey Schloesser, the former Director of Army Aviation, has
joined AAR as President of its Aviation Worldwide Services (AWS)
business unit. Schloesser will be responsible for leading strategic
planning, operations and growth of AWS, which provides airlift
services and specialized aircraft modifications.
Just days after receiving FAA TSO authorization for its Trilogy
ESI-1000 Electronic Standby Instrument, L-3 Avionics Systems said
Thursday that it has received European Technical Standard Order
(ETSO) Authorization from the European Aviation Safety Agency
(EASA) for system.
Used by ATC to inform a pilot that radar data used to determine
the aircraft's position is no longer being received, or is no
longer reliable and radar service is no longer being provided.
