Cancer Patient Fulfills Dream Of Flying In An Airplane

Flight Facilitated By His Medical Team In February

A man battling prostate cancer was able to fulfill his dream of flying in an airplane in February shortly before succumbing to his disease.

Joe Booth, 69, of New Albany, IN was told to stop his treatments in February. While he said he was scared, he wanted to do one thing before he died ... fly in an airplane.

MSN reports that Booth told the Louisville Courier Journal that while he had built plastic model airplanes as a kid, he had never been aboard an actual airplane. On February 25th, he got to take that flight.

The flight was arranged by Tracey Hoffman, his oncology nurse at Norton Hospital. His 30-minute flight took off from Bowman Field in Louisville, and flew over the city and southern Indiana.

Hoffman posted about Booth's wish to fly on Facebook. She was contacted by more than 25 pilots volunteering help him realize his dream.

The flight took Booth over the southern Indiana auto mechanic store where he had earned his living. He also got an aerial view of Ohio River flooding that had occurred the day before. And before the flight was over, he was given the opportunity to actually fly the airplane.

Booth passed away on April 5th, according to the report. Hoffman said his family told her at the visitation before the funeral that getting to fly before he passed was "one of the most beautiful things they'd ever witnessed."
