Gone West: Marguerite Lawrence

Long-Time Oshkosh Volunteer From Kansas

Up until her 90th birthday, Marguerite Lawrence visited the EAA AirVenture at Oshkosh every year, selling tickets as a volunteer by day and sleeping in a pup tent at night.

The Wichita Eagle reports that Lawrence has passed away at 93. She was considered a fixture in the Kansas aviation community.

Lawrence was also a longtime volunteer at the Kansas Aviation Museum, and was involved with other aviation groups.

Lawrence reportedly soloed at 21, received her private pilot's license three years later ... and eventually married her flight instructor. She helped him run an FBO in southern Nebraska.

About the camping at Oshkosh, her son Stan said she just refused to stay in a motel.
