Historical Marker To Be Unveiled At Wallops Flight Facility

Virginia To Recognize Contributions This Saturday

NASA's Wallops Flight Facility will be recognized by the Commonwealth of Virginia for its contributions to aerospace research during a historical marker unveiling ceremony Saturday, November 22, at the NASA Visitor Center.

Established in 1945 by the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics, Wallops is one of the oldest launch sites in the world. During its 63-year history, Wallops has contributed to both aeronautical and space flight development research.

The nomination of Wallops as a historic site was provided by the Virginia Aeronautical Historical Society and supported by the Virginia Department of Historic Resources and the Virginia Department of Aviation.

The ceremony will include comments by local, state and NASA officials on the Commonwealth's marker program, a history of Wallops and the contributions of the facility today in Virginia and the surrounding community. Following the comments, the historic marker, located on Route 175 at the entrance to the NASA Visitor Center, will be unveiled.

The event is being hosted by BaySys Technologies, Accomac, VA, on behalf of the Virginia Aeronautical Historical Society.
