Rebranded Waukegan, IL Air Show To Return In September

Will Now Be Known As The Northern Illinois Airshow

After a one-year hiatus, the Waukegan Air show has been rebranded, and will return in September as the Northern Illinois Air Show.

The show was cancelled last year after organizers said they were unable to meet financial obligations that would allow them to move forward. It was compounded by "certain logistical issues related to relocating some neighbors that border the airport that live in the FAA mandated flight box that we were unable to overcome," according to a news release at the time.

Now, the Chicago Tribune reports that the show will return September 10 at Waukegan Regional Airport. It will feature an opening ceremony honoring veterans and 9/11, along with vintage military aircraft, paratroopers, and mock dogfights by vintage warbirds.

Organizers expect about 10,000 people will attend the one-day event.
