Also: Production Airlander 10, Rhode Island AirShow, Sinclair Av Training Ctr, Dream Chaser

NASA and SpaceX completed a launch escape demonstration of the company's Crew Dragon spacecraft and Falcon 9 rocket Sunday.

This was the final major flight test of the spacecraft before it begins carrying astronauts to the International Space Station under NASA's Commercial Crew Program. The launch escape test began at 10:30 a.m. EST with liftoff from KSC’s Launch Complex 39A. As part of the test, SpaceX configured Crew Dragon to trigger a launch escape about 1.5 minutes after liftoff. All major functions were executed, including separation, engine firings, parachute deployment and landing. Crew Dragon splashed down at 10:38 a.m. just off the Florida coast in the Atlantic Ocean. Green Township in Sussex County, NJ plans to close an airport it purchased nearly 20 years ago and will consider options for redeveloping the site. Trinca Airport (13N) was first opened 81-years ago, according to a report from the Associated Press. It is slated to close on September 1. The airport, for which the township paid $2.28 million 18 years ago, consists of a single grass runway. There are no fees for pilots to use the field, but Mayor Margaret Phillips said the township has annual costs of about $15,000 to maintain the airport and pay a part-time airport manager. Nearly four years after the Vahana concept was sketched on a napkin, the flagship program that launched the urban air mobility initiative at Airbus has come to a close. Vahana’s key learnings are now providing Airbus Urban Mobility with invaluable insight on the design of its future urban air vehicle. The final page of the Vahana story was written at the Pendleton UAS Range in Oregon, where Vahana took its final test flight. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
