Two-Blade Carbon Composite Gets Moniker In Hartzell’s Contest

Owners of the Mooney M20 series aircraft have another choice of propeller with the FAA’s approval of Hartzell’s latest Supplemental Type Certificate for the prop daringly named Outlaw. The newly certified carbon fiber composite two-blade prop got its name with the winning entry in Hartzell’s Name the Prop contest.

The Outlaw name was submitted by Donna Jones, Vice President of Davis Aviation in Bristol, Tennessee. More than 300 names were thrown into the hat at Hartzell’s contest at the EAA AirVenture 2024. Ms. Jones’ entry was chosen by popular vote from five finalists after an entertaining series of polls online and on social media channels.

Jones received $500 in Hartzell merchandise as well as naming rights in the contest.

Jon Stoy, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Hartzell Propeller said, “We were excited to invite the aviation community to help us name this propeller, and the response was remarkable. Outlaw stood out as bold, energetic, and fitting for the freedom Mooney pilots feel in flight. Donna’s entry perfectly captured that spirit.”

The voting demonstrated the enthusiasm and engagement from the aviation community, who had the opportunity to choose between Outlaw, Excalibur, Maverick, Journey, and Bullet.

The Outlaw is a lighweight, carbon fiber, two-blade composite prop with unlimited life blades and no operating restrictions. It is available  under the STC that covers the Mooney M20 A through G and M20J models.

The key features of the Outlaw propeller include:

• Blended airfoil carbon fiber composite blades
• 2400-hour / 6-year TBO
• Replaces Hartzell 2- and 3-blade metal props and McCauley 2-blade props
• The lightest Hartzell option available for Mooney M20 aircraft
