'Drug Fighter' Franklin Augustus Killed, Along with TV Personality, Nancy Parker

It's been another really tough day for aviation as a well-known aerobatic pilot and aviation advocate lost his life while flying a local reporter for a story about his life's efforts. Franklin Augustus, one of the few African American Airshow pilots in the world, as well as being heavily involved in the local chapter of the Tuskegee Airmen, went down in his 1983 Pitts S-2B about a half mile from New Orleans Lakefront Airport at approximately 1500 local time. Tecnam has announced FAA has awarded full Type Certificate to the P2012 Traveller with the number A00076CE for Part 23 of the FAA Regulations. Tecnam is now on track to commence deliveries to aviation companies across the globe, beginning with the first 20 of the one hundred P2012 Travellers awaited by Cape Air in Massachusetts, US. Local Model Aircraft Clubs Offer Free Family-Friendly Events Across The US

Today, August 17, thousands of model aircraft enthusiasts across the country are celebrating the seventh annual National Model Aviation Day, an event that brings together hobbyists and members of local Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) clubs to enjoy family-friendly model aircraft flying events. FAA Warns City Airport Of Investigation

The city of Pleasonton, TX, and a number of aircraft ownwers, got some bad news when an FAA inspector rang them up to let them know that a number of aircraft based at the home airport were not legal to fly. Apparently, after a complaint from an individual to the FAA, an initial investigation revealed that a mechanic doing business at, and based at the airport, was reportedly not certified. The FAA's Lynn Lunsford has confirmed reports that annual and other inspections at the airport had been conducted by an uncertified mechanic... pretty much grounding all the affected airplanes. NTSB Chairman Robert L. Sumwalt is slated to host a public roundtable discussion Sept. 6, 2019, with Alaska-based commercial operators, safety experts, aviation industry associations, Federal Aviation Administration officials, and Alaska native tribal leaders on ways to improve the safety of commercial operations conducted under Part 135 of FAA regulations. Part 135 operations encompass both on-demand and scheduled operators, as well as air medical operations that provide essential air transportation services within Alaska.
