Climb and Cruise Propellers Inc. Shows Off Quinti Avio SRL Electric Prop

By ANN Correspondent Juan Jimenez

Prop, hub and controller governor combo now installed on several types of aircraft

Climb and Cruise Propellers Inc. (sharing Booths 92-93 with Eggenfellner Aircraft, north of the main entrance to Hangar D) is demonstrating the electric adjustable and constant speed prop hub and governor controller system developed by Quinti Avio SRL of Italy.

This system should be of interest not only to owners of conventional tractor aircraft but particularly to those who own or are building pusher aircraft such as the BD-5. The reason for this is that the Quinti Avio hub is designed such that the control signals to the electric motor are connected through electrically conductive tracks on the outer perimeter of the hub rather than through the center of the hub.

This means that on aircraft such as the BD-5, where connecting wiring to the hub through its center is nearly impossible due to the propeller shaft and clutch drive installation, this hub makes it possible to install a propeller system which allows the pilot to optimize the performance of the engine and the aircraft.

The Quinti Avio hub is available in two- or three-blade configurations using Warp Drive standard 120 horsepower blades. Both hubs are available with Rotax or SAE configurations. The base price of the Rotax hub with drive motor, spinner adapter, three Warp Drive blades and electric controller with manual switch is $3,795. The same configuration with an SAE hub is priced at $4,645. Both carry an additional $45 crating charge if you want the system shipped to you.

Options available for the system include nickel leading edges for water use only ($135), high power blades rated for 160 horsepower ($165), tapered standard or high power blades ($135), a Flyspeed constand speed controller ($695) and a CNC machined 13 inch spinner back plate ($250). Fiberglass spinners are also available from a third party supplier and all prices are FOB Leesburg, Florida.

The Flyspeed option is an electronic propeller governor which also doubles as a tachometer and manifold pressure gauge. It is designed to maximize performance from all electric variable pitch propellers b y providing preset modes selected for takeoff, climb, max cruise, standard cruise, mid cruise, economy cruise and landing. The unit can also be connected to a personal computer through a serial port for continous recording of RPM, MAP and electric motor current.
