New Experimental Light-Sport Repairman Course Available

First Course Scheduled for This Weekend, Another In January

Mike Huffman, owner of Sport Aviation Specialties, has announced FAA acceptance of the company's new 16-hour training course for owners of experimental light-sport aircraft (E-LSAs) to prepare for an FAA repairman certificate.

Following successful completion of the course, students can apply to their local FSDO office for issuance of the repairman certificate, which will allow them to perform the annual condition inspection on their E-LSA.

Huffman, also an FAA Designated Airworthiness Representative (DAR) for experimental light-sport and experimental amateur-built certification, said, "The first courses will be for owners of fixed-wing E-LSAs, but we plan to follow up quickly with FAA acceptance for powered parachute and weight-shift courses. Courses will be held at our home base in Lee's Summit, but we also plan to take the course on the road, wherever there is enough interest to generate good attendance."

The courses are generally held on weekends, with the first course scheduled for December 10-11 in Tulsa, OK, followed by a course on January 7-8 in Lee's Summit, MO, a suburb of Kansas City.

Normal tuition is $349, with a $50 discount for EAA, USUA, or Aero Sports Connection members. Registration is available through the SAS website and inquiries about off-site courses are welcome.
