Chicago Area Business Aviation Association Awards Scholarships

Over $90,000 Distributed To Aviation Students

The Chicago Area Business Aviation Association (CABAA) awarded over $90,000 to aviation students in the form of scholarships and awards at its 2012 Annual Golf Classic, held August 14 at Kemper Lakes Golf Club in Kildeer, IL.

Seven college students and one high school student from the Chicagoland area each received a $4,000 scholarship in recognition of their academic achievement and commitment to aviation. Criteria included grade point average, letters of recommendation, and a 1,000 word essay expressing the student’s aviation goals, future education plans, aviation experience, and how the scholarship would help to contribute to their continued education in aviation.

In addition, CABAA teamed with Flight Safety International to grant three professional training awards to recent college graduates seeking careers in business aviation. Cecil Barbato, a 2012 graduate of University of Dubuque, received the Pilot Training Award, a Citation II SIC pilot training course. Jessica Reading, a 2012 graduate of Western Michigan University, received the Maintenance Training Award, a Falcon 2000 initial maintenance training course; and Jacob Luedtke, a 2012 graduate of Lewis University, received the Maintenance and Troubleshooting Training Award.

A professional training award was also granted in partnership with CAE. Anthony Lalor, a 2012 graduate of Lewis University, received a Citation V SIC pilot training course.

CABAA established its scholarship program in 2005 to motivate students to reach the highest level of achievement in their aviation studies and to encourage pursuit of careers in business aviation. For both the Scholarships and the Training Awards, preference is given to applicants from the Chicagoland area. Since the program’s inception, over $230,000 in scholarships and awards have been granted.
