Airborne-Flight Training 05.11.23: T-7A Delay, Army Safety, NBAA Conference

The T-7A Red Hawk jet trainer won't be expected to reach initial operational capability until spring of 2027 according to an Air Force release. The aircraft was supposed to be the next-generation replacement for the long-in-the-tooth, but venerable, T-38 Talon. Following his 28 April aviation safety stand-down order, U.S. Army Chief of Staff General James McConville set forth he expects the service’s helicopters to be airborne in a matter of days. Speaking before the Senate Appropriations Committee’s defense subpanel, McConville explained he had directed aviation units to pause all flight operations for purpose of reviewing all procedures

One of the precious few F-22 Raptors left in the fleet has returned to service after years of repair, completing a test flight at the 514th Test Squadron's home base of Hill Air Force Base. The crew at the aircraft's station in Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson has been on the hunt for replacement parts for more than half a decade, hoping to return the aircraft back to service after a takeoff mishap in 2018. The aircraft was disassembled and shipped up north to JBER, where crews began the arduous process of bringing tail number AF-07-146 back to airworthiness.

On April 1, 2023, about 0735 mountain daylight time, an unregistered Aerotrike Cobra weight shift control (WSC) light sport airplane, commonly referred to as a “Trike” was destroyed when it was involved in an accident near Santa Teresa, New Mexico.
