Major NASA Air Pollution Study To Fly Over California

NASA P-3B To Fly Circular Descending Patterns To Sample Air Quality Over Various Locations

A multi-year NASA airborne science mission is on its way to California to help scientists better understand how to measure and forecast air quality globally from space. Two NASA aircraft equipped with scientific instruments will fly over the San Joaquin Valley between Bakersfield and Fresno in January and February to measure air pollution. One aircraft will fly within 1,000 feet of the ground.

International aircraft leasing company Avolon has confirmed an order for 20 A320neo aircraft in December 2012.  This firm order is an increase on Avolon’s initial commitment for 15 A320neo aircraft announced in July 2012 at the Farnborough International Airshow. Avolon will make its engine selection at a later date.

He Last Flew It With Hostages Released From The Congo On Board In 1964

The brand new C-130E was having a difficult day in 1964. Flying out of a small airport in the Congo town of Stanleyville carrying 125 hostages that had just been released by Simba rebels in the Congo, the airplane took a lot of fire, and was described as being "riddled with bullet holes." One of those rounds punctured a fuel tank, and it leaked fuel during its entire 800-mile trip to a safe landing.

NonApproach Control Tower Authorizes aircraft to land or takeoff at the airport controlled by the tower or to transit the Class D airspace. The primary function of a nonapproach control tower is the sequencing of aircraft in the traffic pattern and on the landing area. Nonapproach control towers also separate aircraft operating under instrument flight rules clearances from approach controls and centers. They provide ground control services to aircraft, vehicles, personnel, and equipment on the airport movement area.
