Pilot Makes Post-Crash Video Floating On The Gulf Of Mexico

Events Lead To Major Donation To His Aviation-Focused Charity

A pilot who ditched his airplane in the Gulf of Mexico off the coast of Lousiana had the presence of mind to grab his iPad as he was getting out of the sinking airplane. While floating in the water with the person who had been his passenger in the airplane, he made a 1 minute 22 second video with the device, which he said he didn't think anyone would ever see. Pilot T.R. Wright said making the video was just a "way to pass the time."

Community College Aircraft Maintenance Program Closed After FAA Inspection

Issues With Record-Keeping Discovered By The Agency

The Academy at Shawnee's Aviation Maintenance Technology program has been temporarily shut down following an FAA inspection which turned up issues with record-keeping. The program coordinator has been removed by the Jefferson Community and Technical College and Jefferson County (KY) Public Schools, but he is still considered an employee of the school system.

Largest Airlift Provider In Afghanistan Supports Military And NATO Operations

The United States Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM) has exercised a renewal option for AAR Airlift to continue its airlift support in Afghanistan. The renewal is tied to one of several contracts AAR has with the U.S. Department of Defense to provide fixed and rotary wing airlift support in the region. The option has a value of approximately $161 million and is part of a contract originally awarded to AAR in October 2010.

Deployed Airframe Parachute After Missing An Instrument Approach

The NTSB's preliminary report associated with an October 6th, 2012 accident involving a Cirrus SR22 airplane indicates that the pilot said he "lost control" of the airplane after missing an instrument approach to Birmingham International Airport (KBHM). The pilot deployed the airplanes emergency parachute, and survived the accident with minor injuries. A passenger on board suffered serious injuries, but also survived.
