While floating in the water with the person who had been his passenger in the airplane, he made a 1 minute 22 second video with the device, which he said he didn't think anyone would ever see. Pilot T.R. Wright said making the video was just a "way to pass the time."

The NTSB's preliminary report associated with an October 6th, 2012 accident involving a Cirrus SR22 airplane indicates that the pilot said he "lost control" of the airplane after missing an instrument approach to Birmingham International Airport (KBHM).
