FAA Funding Issue Cancels FAA ARC Update At AirVenture

By John Ylinen Swift Enterprises provided a forum update Tuesday on their Swift Fuel project. Jon Ziulkowski and Brian Stirm gave the forum an update on the problems with the current 100LL fuel and how their SwiftFuel or 100SF. Ziulkowski said that “their fuel is the only unleaded fuel ever that exceeds the 100 MOM”. On 1 May 2011; Swift Enterprise received ATSM approval for D7719 specification.

Able Flight Graduates Are More Than CapABLE

Organization Teaches People With Disabilities That They, Too, Can Fly

Able Flight, a 501-C3 nonprofit organization who's stated mission is to offer people with disabilities a unique way to challenge themselves through flight training, and by doing so, to gain greater self-confidence and self-reliance, has awarded 34 scholarships since their inception. Among those scholorship winners are include twelve people who use wheelchairs, 5 women, and six wounded or disabled veterans. One of the wheelchair bound graduates has started his own flight school.

Aviation headset manufacturer Sennheiser announced that it has partnered with iFlightPlanner.com to develop what they say is a groundbreaking flight planning application specifically designed for use on the Apple iPad and iPad 2. Pilots and aviation enthusiasts visiting Sennheiser’s booth will be among the first to see the iFlightPlanner for iPad in action before its release later this fall. At its booth, Sennheiser will be hosting the iFlightPlanner.com crew, in addition to its newly unveiled S1 Digital headset.

German engine company Centurion is again displaying its environmentally friendly Centurion-series diesel aircraft engines for GA aircraft at AirVenture this week. The company reports that the engines have accumulated an additional 500,000 hours of cumulative operating time to 2.7 million hours.

BRS Aerospace and Flight Design announced Tuesday at AirVenture that the next generation of the BRS full airframe parachute will be on every Flight Design C4 as standard equipment. This chute will be the next evolution with an electrical firing mechanism. This will provide them with improved capabilities allow pilot and passengers the ability to activate the chute in conditions that the current spring firing pin cannot.

James Wiebe, an inventor and innovator in both ultralight airframe and instrument design, revealed a new sensor technology Tuesday at AirVenture designed to annunciate water contamination in fuel. While not giving specifics about the proprietary technology James indicated the sensor he has developed is sensitive enough to detect minute amounts of water as small as a 1ml drop in the flow of fuel.

One Has A Single Electric Engine Flanked By Two Cockpits

Displayed on the grounds this year is a unique looking glider. With twin fuselages and an engine pod in the middle, this is one of the more unique airplanes to be displayed at Airventure 2011. Pipistrel purpose built this airplane to win this years NASA PAV challenge.
