Eleven Missing In Peruvian Military Helo Mishap

Four Rescued

Eleven people are still missing after a military helicopter crashed in the country's northern jungle, authorities said.

Speaking on Thursday, army commander Jorge Luis Lagunas told Reuters, "The accident happened this afternoon during a flight along the Colombian border. Eleven people are missing, including two policemen, a young girl and a civilian woman. We have rescued four injured officers with cuts and bruises."

The helicopter, type unknown, went down in the rapids of the Putumayo River, about 870 miles northeast of Lima.

It was the second deadly crash involving a military aircraft Peru has seen in recent months. On April 28th, an aircraft went down in the south of the country, killing 13 soldiers.
