Slated To Become An Artificial Reef For Fishing, Diving

It was the personal transportation for former Bulgarian Dictator Todor Zhivkov, but in a couple of weeks, it may be resting at the bottom of the Black Sea. The Sofian News Agency Novinite reports that the Zikov's TU-154 is being readied for it's new career as an artificial reef.

With its wings removed, the airplane is being transported to a construction barge, where it will be stripped of all cables and cleaned of all fluids. It will the be towed about 500 yards way from the Galata Cape, south of the "Golden Sands" beach resort, and sunk in Varna Bay in about 70 feet of water.

Orlin Tsanev, a photo reporter and Chair of the Divers' Union 'Black Sea Dive Odessos', told Novinite the location has been approved by the Bulgarian government. Over time, it will become home to a variety of sea life, and a tourist attraction for recreational divers.
